Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about one hundred years old. Modern craps developed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights played Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French headed down south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair.
