Be smart, play clever, and pickup craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about a century old. Modern craps evolved from the old Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the country. Most consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Later, he established the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
