The Background of Craps

The background of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game referred to as Hazard, which goes all the way back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Early 1800’s. Hazard is thought to be a by-product of Azzahr, meaning ‘the die’ a game enjoyed by Arabs.
The game developed as it spread out from the Arab territories to France and then England. By the early 18th century, formal established rules for Hazard had been developed. France started playing the English variation of Hazard and is assumed to have been brought to America by early French settlers. In the mid-1700s, when the English beat the French in Canada, the French colonists migrated to Louisiana. Dice were enjoyed on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a simplified ‘US’ variation of Craps was developed. The game headed west and is a well-known game that is participated in all over the U.S. and all over the world.
The name ‘Craps’ is theorized to be a French enunciation of the word crabs, which means a pair of ‘1s’. There are two basic forms of Craps that are enjoyed-street Craps and casino Craps. Street caps, accurately called seeing as it’s competed in on the streets is where a tosser makes a point and then attempts to acquire that point. The betting is made either with or opposed to the tosser and another person must cover the wager for the game of craps to continue.
In bank Craps, which is the popular game, wagered on in betting houses, the betting house backs the casino game. The gamblers wager against the house-the casino covers all of the bets of all of the individuals. Craps was a very well-liked game but in the past twenty years had split itself and different games, like poker and blackjack became more well-loved. However, Craps is seeing a come back in fame once again in online casinos and in real world casinos.
